The existing system for recording and updating stock movements to the stock management system was:
❌ Too slow - forklift drivers had to record codes and quantities on paper what they had moved and later, enter onto the factory PC.
❌ Too error prone - typos made when details being kyede onto the stock management system.
❌ Lacking the reliability and accuracy needed of a high performance manufacturing process.
Solution
A new mobile Progressive Web App (PWA) was developed which allowed for:
✔️ PRINTING barcodes onto nearby Zebra printers, detailing the item code, pack serial number and quantity.
✔️ SCANNING barcodes when moving stock instead of manually typing stock codes.
✔️ REALTIME - stock movements recorded by the forklift driver as they are loading/unloading stocks.
✔️ OFFLINE capable - to allow the app to continue to work in those far-off corners of the yard with no WiFi.
Project results
🙂 STOCKOUTS reduced due to FASTER & more RELIABLE balances - the app only allowed the user to move stock that was on the system, immediately highlighting any phantom or missing stock records.
🙂 A more EFFICIENT team - no more copying information from clipboard into the stock system on the PC.
🙂 No more paper recording of movements and ELIMINATION of re-keying ERRORS.
