Thinking of a new business app - Listen to your users

Contents

For that new internal business app, user buy-in from the start will get results quicker.

‘Twas a cold and frosty morning yesterday - the first of this Autumn 🍂 for me.

First task of the day - to observe how the current paper-based stock count was done in preparation for adding this functionality to our mobile stock app.

Not expecting it to take too long, I felt amply layered up….

Two hours later, I could hardly feel my toes 🥶!

The long-serving yards person was very honest with me and expressed his:

❌ SURPRISE, as he had no idea I was coming or this project was happening

❌ DOUBTS that an app would be able to do it faster that his clipboard and pen

❌ more importantly, his UNEASE with new technology

The success of any new project, not just a software one, is helped immensely by user buy-in.

Get that, and your project will have the wind in its sails.

Otherwise, get ready for that headwind.

✔️ I LISTENED to all of his concerns (writing them down on my clipboard - the irony!)

✔️ We AGREED that the new app would be perfect for the new tech-savvy “young’uns” joining our company.

✔️ Acknowledging his many years of stock experience, I asked if he would help me in developing the app.

🙂 I’m happy to report, that he has agreed to share his experience in guiding how the app should work.

🙂 He has accepted my challenge of trying to win him over with the app!

🙂 And I accepted his challenge of a duel when I’m done - clipboard & pen V’s mobile app!

The sail back to the office went quicker than usual 🌬️⛵ - where I stood next to the radiator for some time.
